The Faces of iGA Istanbul Airport
In addition to being one of the most important global transfer hubs, iGA Istanbul Airport, which started its journey with the vision of also being a connection point for universal art, brought together all its works in the field of art under the roof of İGART. Within the scope of the first stage of the İGART Art Projects Contest, 13 works of art were successfully selected for the final phase with the art lovers.
With the İGART Art Projects Contest, iGA Istanbul Airport, as a cultural intersection and a major transportation hub, aims to bring together the cultural memory of Anatolia and the identity of Istanbul that is immersed in different cultures and art. Besides being the biggest airport in the world and a global transfer hub, iGA Istanbul Airport also started its journey with the vision of being a hub for universal art and, accordingly, opened the first exhibition of the İGART gallery, "Visions Under the Viaduct | Viyadük Altındaki Rüyalar" which was curated by İGART Executive Board Member, Prof. Dr. Marcus Graf on 27th November.
The exhibition venue was designed as a unique structure matching the airport's form by Architect Murat Tabanlıoğlu. The first exhibition of the gallery comprises 13 works of art which have been successfully selected for the final phase of the İGART Art Projects Contest. The "Visions Under the Viaduct | Viyadük Altındaki Rüyalar" exhibition also displays the transparent and inter-disciplinary approach of the İGART Art Projects Contest.
iGA Istanbul Airport, whose mission is to bring people together and provide opportunities for new stories to emerge, has also taken on the task of promoting Turkish culture and art to people worldwide.
The iGART Arts Projects Competition has provided an opportunity for young talent...
Young artists under the age of 35 from Turkey and other countries took part in the first of the İGART Art Projects Competition series, which was announced on 21 November, with 221 projects submitted. "iGA Istanbul Airport will be the centre of global art."
At the first exhibition of the İGART gallery, Kadri Samsunlu, CEO of iGA Istanbul Airport, declared that they are aiming to combine the identity of Istanbul blended with culture and art and the cultural memory of the Anatolian geography together with other different cultures, and they have taken great care to remove the borders restricting the art. Samsunlu continued: "We are working very hard to take iGA Istanbul Airport beyond being just an arrival destination and to make it a living centre that visitors will want to return to. Culture and art projects comprise some of the essential parts of our efforts. The iGART Art Projects Contest aimed to bring together Istanbul's identity, immersed in culture and art, and the cultural memory of Anatolia with its different cultures. With this purpose in mind, we are excited to open our first exhibition, "Dreams Under the Viaduct," to art lovers. You will have noticed that, until now, we have frequently emphasised the statement, "Türkiye's gateway to the world", when defining iGA Istanbul Airport, the vision of our country. We can now say that Türkiye's gateway to the world in terms of culture and art will be iGA Istanbul Airport, which is aiming to be a centre for universal art.
The exhibition will be available to visitors at A-B Knuckle in iGA Istanbul Airport's International Terminal until 31 January 2023.
