Seçkin Pirim Sculpture Exhibition Titled “Timely-Timeless” at Baksı Museum
İGA ART Gallery, the cultural and art center of iGA Istanbul Airport, presents the "Residents of Istanbul" exhibition by Venezuelan artist Jesús Briceño Reyes, curated by Zarastro Art. The exhibition focuses on the daily lives of Istanbul residents.
iGA Istanbul Airport, Türkiye's gateway to the world, continues to host various events with the aim of becoming an art center where different cultures meet and interact. The "Residents of Istanbul" exhibition, organized in collaboration with the contemporary art platform Zarastro Art and İGA ART, showcases human landscapes through the eyes of Venezuelan artist Jesús Briceño Reyes.
From June 5 to July 31, available at the İGA ART Gallery in the International Terminal A-B Knuckle of iGA Istanbul Airport, the exhibition features Briceño Reyes' attempt to mirror the lives of Istanbul residents, albeit briefly, through his works.
The artist stated that his goal with the "Residents of Istanbul" exhibition is to "encourage us to take a step back and reflect, to look deeper into the human experience, different cultures, and the world." While reflecting on the daily lives of the city's residents, the artist invites the audience to take a closer look at the interactions between the residents of Istanbul and the city.
In the works depicting outdoor spaces in the exhibition, works depicting various professions and people from different walks of life waiting together come to the fore, as well as various professionals who put forth their labor on the street. In indoor works, the artist focuses on the different types of people we might see on public transportation.
Briceño Reyes captures moments that interest him in public spaces in Istanbul through photography and uses delicate materials like paper in his paintings to emphasize the fragility caused by life’s harsh conditions. He works in black and white to highlight contrasts and demonstrate that they form a cohesive whole. By deliberately avoiding sketches and leaving empty spaces on his canvas with an intuitive and improvisational approach, he invites the viewer’s imagination and adds a sense of timelessness to the moments.
